Signed Rolling Stones photograph with a tale to tell to sell at auction on 16th August

The signed vintage photograph of the Rolling Stones
that was presented to the vendors’ parents following an
incident in a bar in Singapore in the mid-1960s

A vintage signed photograph that captures the hedonistic glory days of one of rock n roll’s most enduring acts will come under the hammer at Cuttlestones’ Wolverhampton Auction Rooms on Friday, 16th August. While items signed by the band always prove popular – a signed post card bearing the same image sold at Cuttlestones back in February this year for an impressive £1,014 – this photograph has a particularly interesting back-story that relates to the parents of the vendor.

Leek-based Michael Duff, who is selling the photograph, recalls the family legend behind how it came to be in his possession:
My parents were stationed in Singapore, where I was born, from 1964-66. The story goes that they were out one evening in a bar in on Orchard Road, Central Singapore, and while they were sitting enjoying their drinks my mother, Isabella, was hit on the cheek with a sugar lump that came flying across the bar.
My father got up to confront the group of lads sitting in the corner from where the missile had been thrown for their rudeness, only for my mother to grab his arm and say “Don’t you realise who that is – it’s the Rolling Stones!”. In the end, the story ends happily – my parents were bought drinks and given a signed photo by the band, which is how it came to be in the family.”
The photograph, signed by band members Mick Jagger, Brian Jones, Keith Richards, Bill Wyman and Charlie Watts depicts the band in a group pose. It will come up for sale on Friday, 16th August 2013 during the Specialist Collectors’ Auction at Wolverhampton Auction Rooms.
Viewing will take place the day prior to and on the morning of the sale and, for those unable to attend on the day, live online, telephone and commission bidding options are available. For further information call 01902 421985 or
