Sale report: Penkridge Antiques & Interiors – Wed 24th Feb 2021

Posted on

A showroom-fresh Mini in a rather fetching shade of orange caught the bidders’ attention this week. Hailing from a local house clearance and having just over 600 miles on the clock, the 2015 Mini Cooper saw the hammer fall at an impressive £9,500.

It was the star lot in a substantial catalogue featuring some 733 lots and spanning a diverse range of sections. Elsewhere, traditional ‘chintzy’ china continued its high-rolling trend and, while Royal Albert’s Old Country Roses design remained universally popular, an Aynsley cabbage rose trio of cup, plate and saucer also drew the bids, selling for £110.

Retro furniture again proved popular, with bidders snapping up both branded and un-branded examples with equal enthusiasm. Two unexpected highlights came in the form of a pair of vintage bicycles – Lot 508, a Jack Taylor bicycle frame which went for £240, and Lot 510 – an unbranded green retro bike which fetched £160, perhaps driven by the popularity of hipster cycling events like Bakewell’s Eroica Britannia. With prices strong across the whole catalogue, it was a challenge to whittle down our list of top sellers this week…
