Forget 10 green bottles – how about 20,000 beer mats?

Posted on

A collection comprising of an estimated 20,000 beer mats and a significant number of cans that charts a diverse range of brewers and beers has been consigned for sale at Cuttlestones’ auctioneers and valuers in Staffordshire.

Collated by a single collector from Birmingham, the collection includes an example of what claims to be “the world’s biggest beer mat” amidst roughly 20,000 or its more regular-sized counterparts. The collection also offers a large number of drained beer cans; including special edition sets such as Carling’s ‘lady’ series; each featuring pinup style character with her own name. With all items in exceptionally good condition this is a true rarity, as auctioneer and valuer, Dave Eglington, explains:

One of the best things about this job is you’re never quite sure what’s going to come through the door next – and this is a perfect example. This has got to be a unique collection, given its sheer size and diversity, and we wouldn’t be surprised if it’s not the largest of its kind. The collection has been meticulously kept and represents an exceptional opportunity for those with an interest in brewing ephemera. We get quite a lot of brewing memorabilia coming through the doors but the sheer size and specialism of this collection sets it apart from the crowd – if anyone thinks they know of one larger, we’d be happy to hear from them!

The entire collection of beer mats and cans is set to be sold during Cuttlestones’ Collectors’ Sale on Fri 29th July, with live online bidding available for those who can’t be there on the day. For further information visit or call 01785 714905.
