Ruby as he completed his charity triathlon

Local auctioneer Dave Eglington took part in a gruelling triathlon event on Sunday, 29th July as part of Staffordshire auction house Cuttlestones’ bid to raise £10,000 for Katharine House Hospice this year. The event, which was Dave’s first ever triathlon, took place at Blithfield Sailing Club, and involved Dave swimming 750m before cycling 20km and finishing with a 5km run.

Having exceeded his target sponsorship of £1000 and with friends and family cheering him on, Dave finished the event a respectable 101st out of 128 competitors in the ‘Sprint’ section of the event, completing all three phases in 1 hour 41 minutes. Dave says:

I am so grateful to everyone who sponsored me – each and every penny helped me cross that finish line – especially when I had completed the swim, which is my worst phase, and had to get out of a cold, choppy reservoir straight onto the bike! The support I’ve had from everyone has been great and it made me determined not only to finish but to push myself.  It’s been a real challenge training and competing in this event but I must admit I’ve thoroughly enjoyed it and will definitely compete again in the future – although next time just for fun!

Dave’s challenge has given Cuttlestones’ fundraising efforts a boost with the total raise to date standing at an impressive £5,000 – if you’d like to support the Cuttlestones team in their goal of raising £10k for Katharine House Hospice in 2012,  visit
