West Midlands auction house Cuttlestones Auctioneers & Valuers is lending its support to the local branch of the Art Fund in its latest bid to raise funds for the national arts charity. Tickets are already on sale for an elegant evening event at Chillington Hall in July which, compered by the BBC Antiques Roadshow expert Lars Tharp, will see a series of lots – including unique works by local artists – auctioned off that to raise funds for this worthy cause.

Perhaps best known locally for its work to help save the Staffordshire Hoard for the nation, the Art Fund is a national charity aimed at helping museums and galleries buy great works of art of all ages and types. In the past decade it has made grants to Staffordshire organisations including the Potteries Museum and Art Gallery, the Staffordshire Record Office and the Wedgwood Museum totalling £352,422 to help toward the purchase and display of items that include the Staffordshire Hoard, paintings and medieval jewellery.

The fundraising evening will be held in the breathtaking surroundings of Chillington Hall, by kind permission of the Giffard family, and will include a drinks reception supported by Wolverhampton based firm FBC Manby Bowdler Solicitors, a two-course sit down meal and the chance to spend an evening in the company of one of the UK’s leading antiques experts while helping raise funds to preserve our cultural heritage. Sue Taylor of the Staffordshire branch of the Art Fund says:

We’re really looking forward to this event; not only will it help to raise funds for the Art Fund but will also help to raise the Staffordshire group’s profile and hopefully encourage some new members to come on board. We’re grateful for the support that everyone involved is offering and to the local artists and businesses that are kindly donating some fascinating lots for the auction. We’re also delighted that Lars Tharp has agreed to join us for what promises to be a very exclusive event, with just 150 tickets available.

The Art Fund auction will take place at Chillington Hall, near Brewood, on Wednesday, 18th July at 6.30pm. Tickets are £30 each and include drinks reception, two course meal and Art Fund gift bag. To secure yours send an SAE and cheque (payable to Art Fund (Staffs Branch)) to The Art Fund, 133A Cannock Road, Stafford ST17 0QL. If you are interested in donating a lot to the auction, or in supporting the event through sponsorship, please email Sue Taylor on [email protected].
