Bullseye! Local auction house has high hopes for silver darts trophy in forthcoming sale

Cuttlestones’ Tom Waldron shows off the
impressive silver trophy.

An impressive silver darts trophy set to come under the hammer at Wolverhampton auction house Cuttlestones’ Home and Antique auction next Wednesday, 20th June is expected to attract some serious bids.

The piece, which is hallmarked for Birmingham 1938 is not only a substantial piece of silverware  (weighing in at 1808g) but carries local interest, being engraved “WINNERS OF HEDNESFORD AND DISTRICT AFFILIATED CLUBS DARTS LEAGUE 1940/41/42”. One of a number of lots of gold and silver consigned to sell in the auction, sale room manager Tom Waldron explains why it carries an estimate of £800-£1200:

Silver and gold sells well regardless of what else is happening within the antiques market. It has a tangible value and selling at auction is one of the best ways of realising the highest price for your gold or silver items – from jewellery and coins through to cutlery, trophies and large decorative pieces The reason for this is that we market our sales to reach the broadest possible audience, including specialist collectors. This lot will not only be of interest to the trade, who will be keen to secure it based on metal value alone, but potentially also to collectors of sporting memorabilia. It’ll be interesting to see what it achieves and who finally buys the piece.

In addition to monthly Home and Antiques Sales  and quarterly Specialist Collectors’ Sales at its Wolverhampton auction rooms, Cuttlestones also hosts fortnightly Home, Garden and Antique Sales and quarterly Fine Art Auctions from its Penkridge HQ.  This means that there are always plenty of platforms for selling items of gold and silver, from more domestic pieces and everyday jewellery through to items of great history and antique value. To arrange a free valuation of your gold and silver items at either sale room, please call 01785 714905 or visit www.cuttlestones.co.uk.
