Sale Report: Specialist Collectors’ Sale, Wolverhampton, Friday 10th September 2021

Fielding a catalogue just shy of 300 lots and covering sections including watches, coins & banknotes, antiquarian books, advertising ephemera, comics, maps, radio equipment, sporting memorabilia – and pretty much everything in between - last week’s online only specialist collectors’ sale attracted some 300 registered bidders.

The diversity of lots going under the hammer was reflected in the sale’s highlights – with Chinese art, stamps, radio equipment, coins, paintings and books all featured in the top ten. As well as individual standout lots, a collection of radio equipment - which included WWII radio receivers, a large number of valves and other spares - made a total hammer price of £3,800. Folio Society Books also performed well; with 13 lots fetching a total hammer price of £1,700

Top Ten Sellers:

Lot 132: FIVE FRAMED & GLAZED CHINESE PICTURES ON RICE PAPER depicting rural life including a scene of goods being transported by river and fruit harvesting - SOLD £950

Lot 147: A COLLECTION OF MOSTLY MODERN BRITISH COMMEMORATIVE STAMPS, DEFINITIVES ETC., both mint and used along with albums of miscellaneous stamps - SOLD £850 

Lot 146: A COLLECTION OF BRITISH STAMPS IN FOUR STANLEY GIBBONS ALBUMS QV - QEII, to include a penny black, a run of penny reds, various high value parcel types through to modern Commemorative issues - SOLD £600

Lot 227: A KENWOOD ALL MODE MULTI BAND TRANSCEIVER TS-2000X, with service manual - SOLD £550

 Lot 224: A BOX OF VINTAGE RADIO SPARES TO INCLUDE VALVES, Avo meter, SWR and power meter, Diana round meter etc - SOLD £420

Lot 20: TWENTY SILVER 2012 OLYMPICS £5 CROWNS IN CAPSULES - SOLD £380

 Lot 177: JOHN AUSTIN OIL ON CANVAS of a steam train on a bridge, 73 x 104 cm including frame - SOLD £380

Lot 11: A QEII 2011 PROOF SOVEREIGN in case of issue with certificate of authenticity - SOLD £350

 Lot 176: BARRY G. PRICE - AN OIL ON CANVAS, steam engine 4409 at Much Wenlock station in 1949, signed bottom left, dated on back 2002, 85 x 59 cm including frame - SOLD £320

Lot 228: AN EDDYSTONE RECEIVER, Icom linear amplifier, Icom power supply, frequency counter, Diawa SWR and power amplifier etc. – SOLD £290
