Sale report: Penkridge Antiques & Interiors – Wed 5th May @ Penkridge

It was ‘chintzy china’ that stole the show again in Penkridge – with Royal Albert’s Old Country Roses once again the star performer. Highlights included Lot 102 – two trays of Old Country Roses including tea pots, trios and dining plates and Lot 126 – four trays of similar including tea & coffee pots, cups and saucers, and a Royal Doulton Country Rose figure, which each sold for an impressive £650.

Elsewhere, a couple of early highlights came in the art section with Lot 1 - a large framed & glazed Jackson Pollock Museum of Modern Arts NY Exhibition poster (circa 1998) selling for £80 despite the glass being badly cracked. Also achieving £80 was Lot 10 – a framed & glazed Robert Taylor print entitles ‘Air Strike over West Falkland’ and signed Lt. Commander Sharkey Ward.

Gold prices remain strong, illustrated by two lots selling for well above their scrap price - Lot 401, a hallmarked 9ct gold locket on 9ct gold chain weighing approx. 32.9g sold for £400 and Lot 403 – a hallmarked 9 - A HALLMARKED 9ct gold bracelet with an approx. weight of 6.7g that went for £90.

Buyers also seemed keen to snap up musical electronic items with CD players and turntables performing well; while there were evidently a few bidders with their sights set on the stars as Lot 200, a large Meade LXD55 telescope on tripod, complete with remote, battery pack and hard case of lenses, sold for £420.

Last, but by no means least, the furniture section was dominated by the ongoing appetite for all things vintage and mid-century. The undoubted star of the section had to be Lot 681 – a rather industrial 16-drawer workshop cabinet that went for £480, despite significant damage to the base and top.
